Jobberman unveils campaign to empower women

Jobberman Nigeria has unveiled the #BeABossLady Campaign, an initiative aimed at equipping women with financial and entrepreneurial skills, as part of efforts to tackle poverty and promote economic development.

Jobberman launched the #BeABossLady Campaign in Lagos recently, which provides courses targeted to women aged 18 to 35 to empower them to pursue careers, launch businesses, and achieve financial independence.

The Head of People and Culture at Jobberman, Samantha Ifezulike, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to youth and women’s development, saying “We feel the best way to drive economic growth in Nigeria is through the youth, equipping them with the right skills.”

Ifezulike explained that the programme prioritises women due to the lack of resources tailored specifically to their needs in society.
She said, “There are no causes tailored to how women can survive in society or grow more than they currently are. So that’s why the focus is on women. And before this, we also have other partnerships that have gotten us why we need to focus on women. So that’s why we do that. We do it to help the society, especially the young generation, equip them with the right skills.

“And nowadays, people are not just doing nine to five. So this course is tailored towards those who are starting their career and those who want to become entrepreneurs. What skills do you need? How do you know what to do? So this is why we do what we do.”

The initiative, which is part of a larger project spanning Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya, aims to impact over 444,000 Nigerian women by April 2024.
Ifezulike revealed participants can access courses through Jobberman’s website or through WhatsApp to minimise data costs, as the company factored in the economic challenges in the country.
According to Ifezulike, “We ensure that everyone, no matter where they are, can easily access these courses. Once completed, participants receive certificates for free courses or pay a token of $2 for premium certifications.”

In her welcome address, the Head of Operations and Customer Experience at Jobberman Nigeria, Adejoju Ajagunna, highlighted the significance of the programme, noting that women constitute 70 per cent of Nigeria’s informal workforce but face barriers to resources and mentorship.

Ajagunna said the campaign was designed to “bridge the gap” by providing practical courses to sharpen digital proficiency, build business acumen, and strengthen leadership capabilities.

The campaign’s launch also featured a panel session moderated by Oluwaseun Olusegun, with contributions from figures including the founder of Herconomy, Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti, Nollywood actor and author, Juliana Olayode, and Jobberman’s Samantha Ifezulike.

Durosinmi-Etti advised women to embrace entrepreneurship with courage, noting, “You will fail in some areas when you are starting, but do not be afraid to start.”

Olayode emphasised authenticity and mentorship as essential tools for success, adding, “Be authentic and it will help grow your community.”
Meanwhile, Jobberman has called on men to support the campaign by sharing information and encouraging women to participate.

“If you empower your sister, she will feel your love. Share, encourage, and even buy data for them,” Ifezulike urged.
